Welcome to the first of a series of Blog posts that I’ll be doing, called: “A Teaching Moment with Mr. B”.

The contents of this Blog are all associated with a book that I have written titled: “Guidelines for the Successful Student: A Closer Look At Parenting Your School-Aged Child.

I will be providing tips and strategies about the book, what I’ve learned over the years as a teacher and how parents can use the tools that are necessary to help their children be successful in the 21s century.

In this first blog post is about my overall purpose in writing the book.  In my book, I use a lot of acronyms, and the first one I use was the word P.A.R.E.N.T.S..  A parent is anyone any guardian, or parent who is entrusted to take care of school-aged children and raise them.

It could be natural parents, or stepparents, guardian or relative, whoever is raising the child at home is considered a parent as defined by my book.   Each letter in that acronym P.A.R.E.N.T.S. stands for something, and it spells out the overall purpose of me writing this book, which can be found on Amazon.com.

Smiling diverse group of professionals.

About P.A.R.E.N.T.S.

P means Preparation.  We need to prepare our children and I will show you many different tools that you can use to prepare them for school every year.  How we can prepare them academically, as well as socially, and psychologically.

A means Accommodation.  We need to make accommodations about what type of school environment your child will be educated in.  Homeschool, Public, Private, Charter school are some of the options for example.  What are the social/ psychological medical needs of your children?  I will discuss this further in the book.

R is for Rewards and Consequences.  We all like to be rewarded and for every action, there’s a consequence that follows a behavior.  My book will explore how parents can use rewards and consequences to help encourage, invigorate, and motivate their children at home, just like teachers do at school.

E is for Expectations.  What expectations do you set for your children.  We need to set high expectations for our children.  They’re all our children.  We expect them to learn, all children can learn.

N is for Nurturing.  I explore the ways of nurturing our children from A to Z and I’ll show you various ways that you can do that.

T is for Teach and Train.  We need to teach and train our children and I offer 5 different ways in my book as to how you can do this.

S is for Support.  Support from whom?  Support from our Stakeholders.  Our Stakeholders are not only our Parents at Home, the Children and our School Faculty and Administration, but also members of our community.  Who have a stake or place a premium on our student’s learning.  It’s so important that we get help from all different parameters, and I offer an A to Z list of stakeholders to support our parents.
